QUIZ EVENING

The quiz on Saturday 3rd February, in aid of St Clare Hospice, was very successful and enjoyable. £472 was raised for the hospice. Our thanks go to all those involved in organising and running the event. Also, a very big thank-you to everyone who came along to support it.

MEMORIAL BOOK AT THEYDON GARNON

We will be updating the memorial book at Theydon Garnon soon. If anyone would like to add the name of a family member who has died, could they please see Ann or Heather with the details of the person you would like to have included . There is a cost of £20 to pay for the work of the calligrapher.

PILGRIMAGE TO THE HOLY LAND

Last February, I joined a group led by Rev. Sally Lynch on a memorable trip to Israel.

The group of 17 were very friendly, the Christian Palestinian guide was excellent, the accommodation, meals etc very good, and the comprehensive itinerary took us to all the important Christian sites in Jerusalem, the desert, Bethlehem, Nazareth etc, to the Dead Sea, and Masada, and to Galilee. Sally was a very experienced, kind and inspiring leader: memorable moments were many, such as Communion on the shore of the Sea of Galilee, by the river Jordan at the Baptism site…Sally is leading a Pilgrimage again, from 2-11 October, 2018, 10 days based in Jerusalem and Galilee. THE WOMEN'S WORLD DAY OF PRAYER - FRIDAY 2ND MARCH 2018

The Women's World Day of Prayer service starts at 2.00p.m. on Friday 2nd March 2018 at Theydon Bois Baptist Church. World Day of Prayer is an international, ecumenical, prayer movement initiated and carried out by Christian women in more than 180 countries. Every year Christians of many traditions and all ages, celebrate a common day of prayer on the first Friday in March. The theme this year is "All God’s Creation is Very Good!"  We will join an estimated 3 million people around the world that day in a service which has been written this year by the women of Suriname in South America. Starting in Samoa as the sun rises, and ending as the sun sets off the coast of American Samoa, the service will have been translated into more than 95 languages and 1000 dialects as we are reminded that we have responsibilities in caring for this wonderful world we live in. With its vast rainforest and wealth of resources, Suriname asks us to pray for conservation and the protection of wildlife, through an awareness of pollution, misuse and abuse, as well as for the situation in Suriname and concerns for the future. This is not simply a day of prayer for women, but for everyone who cares about our world and those who live in it. Please join us for the service followed by refreshments. Further information from Liz Emmett 814951

A WHOLE BENEFICE JOURNEY

On Saturday 24th March, all are invited to join our Vicar in walking across the whole Benefice, and praying in each of our church buildings. Exact timings to be published soon, but please keep the day free and come along to walk all or part of the journey or to pray in one of the churches.

WESTMINSTER ABBEY PARISH PASS

The Benefice Office now holds a parish passes for each church in our group.  Each pass can be used on 6 occasions, and allows a group of up for 4 people entry for free each time.  Passes can be borrowed from Sarah Bowen.

EVENING PRAYER

Evening Prayer is usually said publicly in the Benefice at St Mary's TB on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at 5p.m.  The service takes place in the choir stalls, and entry is via the clergy door at the east end of the building.

CONFIRMATION IN THE BENEFICE - SUNDAY 6th MAY 2018

On Sunday 6th May at 6p.m., St Mary's TB will be hosting a service of Confirmation at which the Bishop of Barking will be confirming candidates from the Deanery. This is a rare opportunity for us to host such a service, and also a special opportunity for anyone thinking of Confirmation to make a step of Christian commitment here in the Benefice. Confirmation is a special service led by a Bishop where those baptised (usually those baptised as children) confirm the promises made and it is usual to participate fully in services of Holy Communion following Confirmation. Bishops preside on these occasions as a reminder that we belong to the universal church as well to our local congregation. Two preparation courses will be offered, one for adults and one specifically for young people, more details to follow. Would anyone interested in Confirmation or in joining either group please speak to the Vicar to register your interest.

CONTACTS IN THE UNITED BENEFICE

Email contacts for the Vicar and Benefice Administrator have changed, please use vicar@theydonparishes.org or office@theydonparishes.org to contact John or Sarah.  Our Vicar is trying to be more disciplined in using email, and will not have access to email on the move, so sometimes it may take a little longer for a reply to be sent.
